Anna Johansson

watercolor artist & illustrator

Anna Johansson is a watercolor artist originally from Sweden, as well as a wife, mother, and grandmother of three sparkling children. Drawing inspiration from the Bhakti tradition, Anna’s work is a luminous tapestry of ancient Indian narratives, feminine divinity, and the sacred rhythms of nature. Over 10 years, she created hundreds of illustrations for the Sita’s Fire Trilogy. Her artwork is also featured in her own books: The Art of Sita’s Fire and Illuminations from the Ramayana.

She loves challenges, freedom, the infinite expansive sky, magic, ancient wisdom, and meditation. Striving to live the life of a yogi, Anna focuses her attention on compassion and kindness. Images and beauty have always held a deep attraction for Anna—art is how she most naturally communicates. Expressing herself through painting feels more authentic than through words. Her preferred media are watercolor, pencil, and ink.

She loves being immersed in her studio, creating bhakti-inspired art, exploring new watercolor techniques, and teaching. To Anna, the field of fine art expression feels as endless as the infinite sky.

India’s ancient history and traditions provide her with boundless inspiration. She never tires of collecting visual imagery—whether through stories she reads or references she finds online for her paintings. She believes few cultures in the world can compare to the richness of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage.

Anna hopes you will find something within her pages that inspires you.
